Japanese lifestyle brand MUJI – known for its minimalist apparel and household items – has officially unveiled its newest product and no it’s not a shirt: it’s a minimalist house that’ll hit the market this August. The compact structure is stripped down to the barest essentials no doubt in line with the minimalist aesthetics that the MUJI brand is known for.
Aptly named MUJI hut, the minimalist house offers 100 square meters of living space and 30 square feet patio. It could fit about 3 to 4 adults with plenty of living space to spare.

Inspired by the traditional art of Japanese shipbuilding, the MUJI hut is versatile enough to suit a variety of settings and landscapes yet small enough to work as your next vacation home.
Its exterior is made of charred cedar wood with a special hardwood cladding for “enhanced antiseptic properties and durability,” as well as asphalt roofing. The base is made of reinforced concrete construction and raft foundation. The concrete foundation is designed to withstand harsh weather conditions. The elegant interior is comprised of structural plywood made from untreated cypress.
Sliding doors along the front of the minimalist house offer unobstructed outdoor views while a small window in the rear boosts air circulation while allowing for natural light to warm up the space.
The durable mortar floor finish is meant to make cleaning a breeze. From the foundation to the wooden paneling, everything about this gorgeous hut is sourced from Japan.
The design isn’t perfect because it lacks a proper bathroom and kitchen but that’s not really what the MUJI hut is all about. The structure is meant to provide experience for urbanites who’d put a premium on total relaxation and seclusion. MUJI’s minimalist house is suitable for rustic environments, offering a relaxed living space for hardcore minimalist fans.
The house will set you back ¥3,000,000 or $27,000, and that includes the material, construction, and assembly costs. Unfortunately, it’s only available in Japan with no word on the exact international release date.
