Don’t you just love stylish small apartment DIY that makes you feel organized? Today’s small apartment DIY is perfect for folks who are tired of using the same generic bins to hold a variety of stuff: a multipurpose pom-pom bin by Sugar and Cloth!
This multipurpose bin is so cute and fluffy! It’s quite roomy so it can hold blankets, extra throw pillows, throws, soft toys, or even the laundry so they don’t end up all over the floor. This pretty bin also adds texture and a bit of fun to your interiors too; perfect for bland spaces that need a touch of whimsical charm. One thing though, this project will require sewing. It’s easy to sew once you get the hang of it, don’t worry! Are you ready to make your own multipurpose pompom bin? Let’s get started!
You will need:
1 plain fabric bin
Raw wool roving
3”X 2”) plastic card
Step 1: Making the Pompoms
Using the plastic card, wrap the wool roving around it two and a half times. Then, slide the card off the wrapped wool roving, cinching the wool roving in the middle with your fingers. Tie the cinched part of the roving wool with a double knot using the yarn.
Cut the loops with the scissors to make the pompom. Repeat until you have enough pompoms for the bin. If the pompoms are looking a little bit unruly, just trim away with the scissors. If they look a little sparse, fluff them.
Step 2: Sewing the Pompoms to the Bin
After making several pompoms, it’s time to attach these to the fabric bin. Using the tapestry needle, thread the yarn tails of a pompom then insert the needle into the sides of the bin.
Pull the yarn through to the inside then set the pompom in place with a double knot. Cut the remaining yarn tails from inside the bin so it looks neat. Repeat until all the pompoms are attached to the sides of the bin. You want to spread the pompoms evenly all over the bin so the design looks balanced.
… and that’s all there is to it. You can now use your cute bin to store and organize any room in the home. This bin will make a great toy organizer in the nursery, a hamper, or a storage bin in the living room. You can also create several of these bins if you want one in every room or to give away as a housewarming gift.
