New Year, new project! I don’t know about you, but I could really use a little burst of sunshine right now. This dreary winter weather calls for a small apartment makeover!
Pendant lights are so trendy right now and if your small apartment could use a little sprucing up, you’ll love our first DIY project for 2018: DIY Pineapple pendant light! Props for Monster Circus for the cool tutorial.
This project transforms a plain Jane light bulb into a statement-making décor, adding a sophisticated yet kitschy flair to your small apartment. Dreaming of a sunny getaway to escape this god-forsaken weather? Let’s get started!

You will need:
2 or more leather strips
Socket
Light Bulb
A pair of scissors
A pair of zigzag edge scissors
Glue
Step 1: Cutting the Leather
The cut leather will be used to make the pineapple “crown.” The first leather strip should be cut into 10 larger pieces, each one measuring about 10 centimeters in length. Cut the second piece of leather into 5 smaller pieces, about 6 centimeters in length. After cutting the leather, trim each end of the leather strips to form a pointed edge, seen as pictured:
Step 2: Attaching the Pineapple Crown
After cutting and trimming the leather strips, get the glue and start attaching each strip to the socket base. Start with the longer strips of leather. Once all the longer leather bits are glued, layer the shorter leather strips to complete the crown.
Step 3: Add the Leather Trims
This is an optional step! Once the leather strips are attached to the socket base, you can leave it alone to dry or attach a decorative trim to conceal the glued bits.
Using a pair of scissors with zigzag edges (or choose the design that you like), cut the extra leather strip. Apply glue then attach the leather trim to the base of the socket, on the leather strips you glued previously. Leave the glue to dry completely.
Tip: you can amp up the pineapple crown by adding studs if you love a wink of sparkle. But if you are digging the simple design to suit your minimalist aesthetic, the pendant light is perfect without the studs!
After the glue has dried completely, your awesome new pineapple pendant light is complete! Just hang it in any spot that needs a little illumination.
And there you have it, another awesome small apartment DIY to try this weekend! Make one or several of these statement lights to warm up your small apartment all winter long!
